Orange Gerberas Daisy Bouquet on Emerald Green Still Life Painting

This extraordinarily long lasting bouquet of gorgeous bright orange Gerber daisies sat on my dining room table for weeks! As long as I kept refreshing their water and trimming their stems, they kept blooming joyfully. I painted three separate and quite different portraits of the bouquet during that time. This was the second of the three. The bunch of flowers was not in a blue and white spotted vase, but the painting seemed to need one. So, mimicking the shape of the very mid-century stoneware vase they were actually in (which was thrown by my lovely husband several years ago when we were making ceramic work together) I created the basic line and then added the pattern freehand. The pale and ultramarine blue spotted vase offers a subtle contrast against the rich emerald green that covers the background and provides such a striking contrast against the vibrant orange, peach, and pink petals. Bright chartreuse green centers pop in the middle of the flowers, adding to their overall sunshiney feel. This original, Matisse-inspired, maximalist floral painting will ship from my East Bay studio, lovingly wrapped in layers of acid-free glassine and soft padding.
