Orange Gerbera Daisy Bouquet on Pink in Country Floral Vase Still Life Painting
This extraordinarily long lasting bouquet of gorgeous bright orange Gerber daisies sat on my dining room table for weeks! As long as I kept refreshing their water and trimming their stems, they kept blooming joyfully. I painted three separate and quite different portraits of the bouquet during that time. This was the third of the three. The bunch of flowers was not in a floral print vase, but the painting seemed to need one. So, mimicking the shape of the very mid-century stoneware vase they were actually in (which was thrown by my lovely husband several years ago when we were making ceramic work together) I built up a liberty-style spring meadow floral pattern to the surface of the pot. This floral print includes bright yellow pops with dark centers, green leaves, speckling the base between patches of blue flowers. A red background balances and grounds the whole pattern. The meadow floral design on the vase provides a lovely contrast against the gorgeous vivid pink that covers the background and provides such a striking contrast against the vibrant orange, and peach petals. Bright chartreuse green centers pop in the middle of the flowers, adding to their overall sunshiney feel.
This original, Matisse-inspired, maximalist floral painting will ship from my East Bay studio, lovingly wrapped in layers of acid-free glassine and soft padding.
